Why is a Credit Freeze so important?

Due to massive data breaches over the last decade, you should assume that your Social Security Number, address, and date of birth are already available to hackers on the dark web.

With that information, a scammer can apply for a credit card or loan in your name. If you have a Credit Freeze active, the bank cannot check your credit score, and therefore they will automatically deny the scammer's application.

Common Myths:

  • • "It lowers my credit score." FALSE. A freeze has absolutely no impact on your credit score.
  • • "I can't use my current credit cards." FALSE. A freeze only stops *new* accounts from being opened. Your current cards will work normally.
  • • "It costs money." FALSE. By federal law, placing and lifting a credit freeze is 100% free. If a website asks you to pay, you are on the wrong page.
